How To Be Delivered From Treacherous Times and Persecutions?

Dear Friends,

Here is a five minute lesson from Jesus.  At the close of the Sermon on the Mount Jesus told a parable:  "The Two Buildings."  What lesson was Jesus giving here?

We first find the parable in Matthew 7:24-27:

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Again the parable is noted in Luke 6:47-49:

Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

What is Jesus Saying in This Parable?

Know God and keep His Word. Build on His strength so when trouble comes you are prepared to withstand it and prosper.  Obey what Jesus says.  Jesus is our Rock. We lean on Him. We rely on Him to deliver us from all troubles, treacherous times and persecutions.  Jesus is our older brother, our friend, our Lord and our God. Why would we not depend on Him in all circumstances?  He has offered Himself to us and all we have to do is receive Him fully for complete salvation and peace.  As Christians we have a duty:  this duty, as a true disciple, is to do what Jesus commands. He is Lord.  Why would you not do what your Lord says?

Test

  1. The rock is a symbol of who? Jesus

  1. What kind of man builds his house on the rock? A wise man.

  1. Who is founded on the rock? Again, a wise man.

  1. What kind of a man hears Jesus' sayings but does not obey them? A foolish man.

  1. What will happen to a house [a man] that is not built on a solid foundation? It [he] will fall greatly.

This is a simple lesson, yet so few apply it. What is the truth in this parable?  You know what it is.  That's right. Lean on Jesus. Listen to Him. Obey Him. He is your strength to overcome all things.  He is your Rock. He is the Rock.  There is no other.
